MCC Signs Compact with Indonesia to Invest in Innovation for Sustainable Economic Growth

18 Nov 2011, Washington, D.C.— The U.S. Government’s Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) signed a five-year, $600 million compact with the Government of Indonesia to reduce poverty through economic growth. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and MCC Chief Executive Officer Daniel Yohannes participated in the signing ceremony, which took place on the sidelines of the East Asia Summit in Bali, Indonesia.
The program will focus on three projects to achieve economic growth:
  • The Green Prosperity Project is designed to support low-carbon economic growth by expanding renewable energy and improving the management of natural resources.
  • The Community-Based Nutrition to Prevent Stunting Project is designed to reduce and prevent low birth weight, childhood stunting and malnourishment.
  • The Procurement Modernization Project is designed to achieve significant savings in government procurements and improve the delivery of public services.
International workshop for house hold biogas

Workshop is held in Novotel, Bandung from 22 to 24 November 2011. Two iicecc staff atendded to the workshop. International particapan come from countries that has  implemented the biogas such  as Miyanmar, Nepal, Bangladesh etc. Participan are also visited to biogas field sponsored by SNV located at rural area Lembang, Bandung. Sorghum for bioethanol

sorgum-200x300Sorghum as the raw material to produce bioetanol (biofuel) has recommend by the World Bank because of not disrupting the availability of the world foodstock and not causing the interests conflict of economis, as that could be cause if bioetanol (biofuel) is produce with the cassava raw material, the oil palm, etc.

Added value of the sorghum crop

  1. Stems use as the production raw material for bioetanol / biofuel.
  2. It seeds as the material of flour manufacturing and bioetanol /biofuel production.
  3. Bioetanol production wastes can be use for the production of livestock food, pulp paper, and the source of the electricity power.
  4. Planting fees and the maintenance of the sorghum crop relatively cheap and easy.
  5. Superior variety seedling cultivations of the sorghum crop relatively cheap and easy

Climate Change coloqium

Dr Luluk Sumiarso chaiman of IICECC participate as moderator on Sarasehan Perubahan Iklim held in Mercubuana University, Jakarta, 11 November 2011.  Also attended on the sarasehan Dr. Rudi Irawan (Excecutive Director IICECC) and Dr. Afzeri Tamsir  (Secretary IICECC).

17 November 2011,
IICECC team visited Center for Application of Isotope and radiation Technology - BATAN for seeking the opportunity implementation of sorghum for source of electric generator.
During discusion with Prof. Dr. Soeranto, it is the posibility to plants the new variaty of soghum in Papua that can produce the ealternative energy with chipper price.
There are 6 members attend on disccusion ; Dr. Afzeri Tamsir, Jeffrey, Dr. JuriantoJoe, Dr. Pudji Untoro, Dr. Rifki Muhida and Dr. Rudi Irawan.

IICECC member are also going to participate for one week workshop held by Biotrop, Bogor 28th Nov to 2td Dec 2011 for practically study the technique to produce bio-ethanol from sorghum and it application for food.
             
Green ICT International Conference

Staff of IICECC attending International Conference on Green ICT 3 Nov 2011 at Jakarta Convention Center.  Conference topic talked about reducing carbon emmision and solid wasted due to utilization of ICT system. Seminar is officiated by Misinter of Telekomunication and Communication Indonesia. Three are three sessions with diferent topics presented by presenter from Indonesian and foriegn speakers. The topic including Green of ICT, Green by ICT and Green Economy. Thre are almost 500 participans attended the conference.
